Diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease
The diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease is based on the doctor’s clinical examination and history of symptoms. While there are currently no laboratory tests that confirm the diagnosis, imaging of the brain using positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computerised tomography (SPECT) scans may support the clinical diagnosis in some cases. It is important to exclude other neurological diseases that may give rise to symptoms resembling Parkinson’s disease.
